Spirit of Performance

July 13th, 2007 | Christianity | Syndicate Content

Primarily when doing ministry, but this can apply to many areas of our lives.

You can tell if you’re in a Spirit of Worship when:
1. You are doing it unto God
2. You are doing it for others - Radical Servant-hood
3. You are trying to be excellent

You can tel when you’re in a Spirt of performance when:
1. You are doing it for temporal/earthly gain (like money)
2. You are competing against others
3. You are yielding to other’s opinions

Find and do the will of God.

I get that way just when things start going really well. Numbers are up, everybody’s happy. Good and complacent.

Then something goes wrong. Or nothing goes wrong. Then, kabloowy, we’re in a numbers war. Or doing it like that other church.

I really appreciate the sentiment of this post. I am working on a blog focused around worship that I hope might take off. It is difficult to balance the desire that it might pay off and the desire that it might make a difference in the lives of others. Thanks for the reminder.
