Mountains of Influence

June 11th, 2007 | Christianity | Syndicate Content

I heard a story last week. You may or may not believe it actually happened, but the reality it points to has stirred up my heart in a new way.

There was a man who died. While he was dead, Jesus showed him one largre mountain surrounded by 7 smaller mountains. The Lord told him that the larger mountain was His government, and the 7 smaller ones were earthly realms of influence. God wanted men and women on each mountain to agree with Him. 30 minutes later he was revived and later moved on to be a man of God in government.

The Seven Mountains of Influence were:

1. Government
2. Education
3. Family
4. The Church
5. Business
6. The Media
7. Art and Entertainment

As many of you know, apart from my full-time job as a missionary with IHOP-KC, I am also a graphic designer. When I heard that Art was a place of influence in which God desires partnership and agreemend I got pretty excited. I realized there are many practical ways for me to partner with God and His plans for the Earth beyond the hours I spend in the prayer room.

For the past week I have been growing in anticipation for Godly ideas and inspiration for design. Something that does not copy the secular, and inspires people for righteousness and holiness. And I know I’m not the only one.

Amen Shawn - you’re definitely not alone! My driving passion with my work is that when people see it, they would feel and experience God.

Amen Shawn - you’re definitely not alone! I love listening to the prayer room while working for EastGateWeb.net - my home-based web-design business. Especially when Rizzo is singing “oooo — ooooo — ooooo —- ooooo - ooo” backed up by Shawn’s WMD drumming.

Great insight Shawn!! I am glad you are excited about this concept. I have been telling Elise it is Redemptive art. Or Redeamed art. It is art that glorifies the greatest Artist. It is the gift of yourself as God has created/allowed you to be/develope. It allows others to ’see’ God through your eyes. May God bring ‘justice’ to your art. (Did I use the term correctly?)

Many people I’ve met think that to serve God you much be in the ministry. Because of that they give up great talents that God has given them, like artistic ability or business savy. It’s great that people are coming into their talents in partnership with Christ!

    Agreed.

Check out churchmarketingsucks.com and godbit.com as their drive is also to be the creative leaders instead of the followers of the world.

FUN! and you are completely correct. I love it. I personally don’t want to do anything music or art wise unless it is Holy Spirit inspired - gonna draw someone to Christ kind of stuff. For that reason, I am sort of sporadic with the writing and painting, but I would rather wait on God then throw stuff together just to be doing something.

    Shawn,

Came across your blog via Randy Bohlender’s witty blog. Looks like you have some good stuff here!

I heard about these seven mountains through an apostolic leader (Lance Wallnau) who was interviewed by Steve Schultz (Elijah List) on his prophetic.tv website. Check it out.

Also how can I learn more about your graphic design services? I have several projects pending that I need to find someone to tackle. I’m not sure if it would be in your area of expertise or not. Do you have a website with your work?

    Thanks,

@ JoAnna: Waiting on God is harder than it seems. I just began a project and instead of surfing around and looking through some books to get inspiration I spent the time away from my desk praying in tongues asking for divine inspiration. It was a lot more ‘work’ but is a process that I am looking forward to developing as habit.

@ Brian: I just sent you an email.
