Apostolic Blogging: You’re a bigger influence than you think

Something to keep in mind: Bigger than your RSS subscriptions; bigger than your daily page views; bigger than your commentor community - there are more people reading your blog than you think. Some are hidden regulars and some are random visitors, and in one way or another those people look to you.

They are asking you a question: “How do you define going hard after God?”

What you say and do through your weblog will answer their question and them give permission to follow.

So what are you giving them permission to do?

hmm, once again you make me think. You really have to stop doing this to me you know. I don’t know what I am giving them permission to do, I like to think it’s allowing them to be honest with themselves and God. I give the permission to think on their own and come to their own conclusions, hopefully to fin Christ.

    I’m giving people permission to:
    …be odd and strange…
…be ninja and love Jesus (I know Ducky is glad of this)…
…follow random thoughts to interesting conclusions…
…have God at the center of it all.

    Permission/encouragement to:

    * love Jesus well, no matter what stage of your maturity
    * laugh a little along the way
    * and, as Idhrendur said, be a ninja for Jesus

Haha Shawn, I am one of your hidden regulars…I’ve never commented on your blog before, but this post prompted me to comment.

How you’re going hard after God definately keeps me a regular. I’m not in a community like IHOP, so being connected through podcasts and blogs has definately provoked me and spurred me on in my journey in incredible ways.

I love all the practical advice you blog… especially when you talk about the 5 lifestyle practices for maturity in God. I get a little lost reading your nerdery posts… but I really enjoyed your posts about your mac. I’ve been a PC user my whole life, but your descriptions and pics have made me seriously consider getting a macbook or ibook as my next computer.

I really don’t know if its the content so much as the body language of a blog that betrays the message of how we “define” going hard for God. Meaning, if we choose topically to write about things that are nominally different, but then adopt a similar cynicism or sarcasm as any other blog, or if our value hierarchy is pretty much the same as any other blogger you might run into on the street in terms of its themes, we may be sending the message that going hard for God is merely tweaking this or that, but pretty much looks like normal life.

Its not what you say, but how you say it.
