What is your favorite spring/summer past-time?
Camping? Water Parks? Amusement Parks? Vacations in the motor-home to distant relatives?

I have two, and they’re both from when I was in high school:
1) My friends and I would buy season passes to Elitch Gardens in Denver (an amusement park, now owned by 6 Flags). The season passes were so cheap it was almost a joke. And we would go like 10 times durring the summer.
2) Because I lived right on the front range of the Rocky Mountains all we had to do was throw a tent, a few sleeping bags, a cooler and some rifles in the back of my friend’s truck, drive for 45 minutes and be in a hidden back of the woods camp-ground. And so we did.

Youth Camp. Hands down.
In Kerrville, Texas at Hill Country Camp is the usual spot for the South Texas District A/G camp. It’s beautiful.
I have gone to camp 13 years. I missed only once, they year I was too old to be a camper, but too young to be a counselor.
This summer will be my 5th year as a counselor. I love it!! I remember being so nervous 5 years ago. But it came naturally. My favorite part is probably at night, when all my girls have climbed into bed, and we go around the room and share prayer requests. Then I lead a prayer for our requests and pray over my girls before they go to sleep. It’s just an amazing blessing to be able to pour into them.
Now, I probably enjoy the services more than anybody, but it tears me up to watch my youth entering in and seeking God with all they are. When I see them in full-blown worship and prayer, praying for each other, and recklessly loving on Jesus, I just cry and cry. I pray especially hard for them in those moments, because God lets me see their potential. I just know who they would be if they would truly live a life of whole-hearted love for Jesus. It’s a gift for the purpose of intercession, I believe.
Camp is right around the corner for us. June 4-8. I am especially excited by the amazing move of God that has already started, and has continued over a month now. I know God has great things in store for this generation who will hunger and chase after Him to live out His purposes in the earth.
Bring it, God!!

I also like drum circles with my buddies… we go down to the riverscape here in dayton… there is this cool underground tunnel right by the river and the acoustics are incredible… you can hear us miles away… and we just worship… sometimes till really late… the parks people know us, and we have always had favor there… incredible times!!!

When Spring returns to South Carolina, the birds return with a vengeance. Just before dawn it is so loud in the back yard I can hardly think.
So in the spring I stop and listen to the bird song. It is like being in a spring torrent. In younger days I would have been all busy trying to differentiate and catalog all the species.
Now, during Spring in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina, I take a morning shower in birdsong, and know that my Daddy loves me.

The missions group I used to work with (YWAM) would run their high school program in the summers called SST’s. The summers were crazy with preperation and ministry, but it was the coolest thing. Every summer it was like the heavens would open up and the grace of God would increase to a level that I did not experience the rest of the year. God was so intent on revealing Himself to those kids it was like he turned up the volume. I remeber being able to hear God so clearly and distinctly. I witnessed transformation in kids lives that was so rapid. It really was incredible.
I have to say those are my favorite summer memories and I would jump at the chance to do it again.

Call me lazy, but when I was in college, I used to love to find an empty bench under a big oak tree on the quad of my campus and take a nap in the shade. Either that or go get some some sun on the rocks down at the river shoals with a good book (though it sadly usually ended up being my biology textbook).

@ Theresa: That’s awesome. I think many of us would say “any and all trips to California.”

I wouldn’t, but that’s because trips to California are redundant to me…
I’m all for camping and for rolloerblading a bunch in the spring (and summer), but those are both dependent on the right groups of friends…and I’ve been apart from those friends for awhile.
I also enjoy taking my massive amount of reading outside sometimes. Well, until the temperature climbs over 100…
