My wife and I watch virtually no TV. We only own one to watch the occasional movie on date night and documentaries with Crew:2. But on Tuesday we pulled it out, and plugged in the antennae to watch the GOP debate. We didn’t know what time or what channel so we surfed for about 30 minutes in search. In that 30 minutes I noticed two things:
1) It is extremely easy to get sucked in and waste your time watching TV.
2) The primary operation of the spirit of Jezebel is through the media. The spirit of Jezebel is one that engages in and tolerates immorality.

Yep. Which is why I watch PBS occasionally. The news if the weather is bad, and the occasional documentary… I used to call it the brain number. Anymore I think of it as the spirit duller.

I could not agree more. My wife and I went through a season where we did not watch tv at all. (The only tv we owned was unplugged in the guest bedroom) Last year we moved and when we set up the new house we plugged it in. I am sad to say that we have wasted many-a-hour in front of that dumb box.
We both agreed just this week to get rid of the tv all together. We haven’t turned it on in over a week and I can say that haven’t even missed it. They really are an unimportant waste of time.

I agree with the sentiments. I am again without television for almost a year, and had chosen to be without one previously for 7 years. The unfortunate interruption was out of necessity for a communications course I had been taking.
I remember when I was freed from it, sick of what I can only describe as a mesmer effect. This is very unhealthy, even if resulting from what we would call religious programming.
For me, getting rid of the TV was an easy decision, because I was tired of its effects, even with minimal use, and because the benefits: much more rested due to lessened anxiety, more reading time, and increased social interaction with real human beings.
While accessing the box is not wrong, I think there is a big difference in how it can be approached: it is the difference between living in reality…or not.

It is extremely easy to waste my time and get sucked in reading other hipster dudes’ blogs who are, like me, into Macs and all about Jesus and being lovesick worshippers.
ohhhh snap!
I don’t watch tv either. I just make sarcastic comments.

there was this great ska song by the beloved Aquabats that I used to listen to… it went something like “turn off the idiot box!” A warning I would have headed had the lead singer, and entire band for that matter, been wearing superhero tights… *sigh* oh Aquabats…

I can certainly testify to the ease of getting sucked in… I’m staying with my parents for a few days back in GA, and they have a sattellite. It’s cool for catching the occassional IHOP conference session on GodTV, but I found myself being very thankful for not having sattellite, cable, or even antenne back home in KC. I’m glad to not have that distraction calling out to me all the time.

It is weird how boring TV is to me these days. OK, I admit I am sucked into American Idol, but mostly, it bores me. I guess when you have tasted Real love, and Real adventure, the fake stuff doesn’t cut it anymore.

Good One Theresa!!
I could get pretty hot about this. If you could actually hear me, you would raise your eyebrows and want to back away as I passionately began raising my voice with realizing it.
I HATE tv. I have known for so long that it is a waste of time. My problem is, my mom and grandma, who are Christians, watch it incessantly. Oh I could scream! Even walking through my lving room, I feel myself being sucked in.
I very, very rarely watch it intentionally. I thought I’d be okay if I just didn’t watch the bad stuff. But, a couple weeks ago, I watched “Lovewrecked.” A clean, teen movie. No bad words that I can remember, no bad scenes. It was a cute movie. NOT! When I finally detached myself from the tv, I had such a worldly mindset. It made me want to be pretty, it made me want to have cute clothes, it made me want ‘love’. Now there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with that, but that is NOT who I am. I want Jesus. I have set my mind on Heavenly things, to be mature to run the race. My focus is Jesus. I want prophetic worship. I want night and day prayer. I want to walk in the Fullness of God. Who cares about anything else!!??
So yeah. I hate tv!
