Well, well, well. What have we here? Another post on one of our favorite topics: Apostolic Blogging. Those who haven’t been around for too long may not be familiar with the A.B. category. I suggest you read the first post on apostolic stewardship and then this intro post on building and apostolic blog. Also, those of you who write for a non-Christian site, don’t go disqualifying yourself just yet. You may want to read the article on being a Christian writer on a non-Christian blog.
I want to talk about the opportunity we all have for ministry on our blogs. Let’s get rid of some common lies regarding ministry and revelation and then give a couple quick practical applications of how you can incorporate the cloth through the web. There is a lot of content here, so I’m going to try to touch on it briefly and move through quickly. Which means I need you to add to and help with this post in the comments.
2 LIES ABOUT MINISTRY
Lie # 1 - You have to be in the ministry to do any ministry.
Pastors. Teachers. Preachers. Prophets. Evangelists. You may be called to one or two or three or none. But that does not disqualify you from moving in those vocations.
Truth - We all have the fullness of the power and gifts of God.
Though our callings may be different - we can still operate in each of the areas of ministry and cultivate all the gifts of the Holy Spirit. You can pastor people without being an ordained pastor. You can teach others without your masters of Divinity.
Lie # 2 - You need permission from someone before you can love others.
Many never do any type of ministry because we’re waiting on someone somewhere to say something so they can go out and be a Godly encouragement to those within and without the Church.
Truth: You got the permission of the Holy Spirit as soon as you were saved.
We all got permission from God as born again believers who love Jesus to do the works of the kingdom. If we waited on people to tell us it was OK to start a Bible study or share the Gospel we would never get anything done.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION ON YOUR BLOG
It is common for the Lord to take us through seasons of emphasizing a specific ministry vocation. As you go through seasons from the Lord where He is training you in something then work it out and apply it on your blog. Here are a couple examples of how to apply ministry on your blog:
- If you are feeling a personal training in the prophetic then take a moment before you write a blog post to ask the Lord what He is saying. I have written a handful of posts with feedback from others telling me how timely the post was.
- If you are in a season of revelation on the Word and feeling empowered to teach it, then do a Bible study on your blog. Maybe it will be a thematic study on a specific topic, or maybe it will be a systematic study going through verse by verse.
- If you have gone through a season where the Lord has taught you about something specific, such as Bible study, then share what you have learned. Dennis did this so well on his blog with his series of posts on Moving Through Bible Scripture.
What are some ministry lies that you’ve figured out? What are some ways you have discovered to apply ministry on your site?

I think a lie could be this one (it’s one that i have heard often):
Lie #3: you have to practice what you preach perfectly. I’m not denying the fact that you have to be real (in your everyday life) and aware of what you preach, but to wait before you have it all figured out, without slipping is useless.
Truth: If we are sincere in what we preach, (even though we slip every once in a while), Jesus will touch the person (or crowd) you’re talking to, and your heart as well. Not because you are so good at what you preach, but because He is so much more eager than us to bring us where we need to be.
He will take us by the hand.
In my writings on my blog I try to be transparent. Not looking like I have it all figured out, because I have not. I have a sincere desire for all of my readers to go with me on a journey of getting to know the heart of our God.
I wanna learn from my readers as well.

@ Ruth: That is so true. I love how you explained the ‘truth’. That God touches our hearts as well. The issue is having sincerity with application - not perfection.
I tackled this very issue on an earlier article about the person behind the post.

Here’s one for your list
Corrollary to Lie #1:
You need to be on a platform to be doing ministry that matters.
Truth: We know it’s a lie, right? But somehow, most of us keep acting like it might actually be true.
Though I don’t know you, I’ve been visiting your site long enough to know that you’re acting on the truth. It’s a huge encouragement.
