A Personal Note

May 24th, 2007 | Personal | Syndicate Content

I very rarely have to deal with stress, but this past week has been an exception:

1) My wife and I painted our house. I spent 45-some-odd hours over the weekend on an extension ladder holding a power washer or a paint sprayer, and boy are my arms tired.

2) I have been prepping for the onething conference in Tallahassee, Florida. This is the first conference I will be mixing sound for. I am looking forward to it, but it added some stress in the pre-conference details and prep work.

3) My wife and I were planning a trip to Texas to visit her brother and his wife next weekend, but I recently got word that my 94 year-old grandmother has two blood clots in her brain and only a few days to live. Now our Texas trip is most likely cancelled as we hold our breath waiting to book a last minute flight back home for the funeral that could happen anytime in the next few days or weeks. This will be the first grandparent and close relative I’ve ever lost.

4) There’s a 40 day fast starting on Monday.

I know things have been slow on thefightspot.com and in my responses to you guys in the comments. I want you to know I am reading them, but have not had as much time to dialog with you as I would like. Thanks for understanding.

I am skipping the weekend survey this weekend and instead will write as many posts as I can to answer your questions and continue addressing fasting.

- Shawn

Sorry to hear about your grandmother Shawn, losing a grand parent is not a very pleasant experience. I will be sure to have you and your family in my prayers this weekend.

I think I can say for all that we understand wholeheartedly. I know you didn’t ask for advice… however, at super-stressed times I find that 1/ going deep in God and finding that still, quiet place of peace and 2/ playing a board game with my husband or some other equally fru-fru thing helps tremendously!

Hosea 2 has been a huge help - pretty much anytime - God draws us into the wilderness to speak comfort to us, allure us and cause us to sing to Him as in the days of our youth. Enjoy.

no worries, your commitments to your family preceed ministry. It’s great to be able to relax in that!
