40 Days for 40 Years

May 18th, 2007 | Asides | Syndicate Content

There are moments in history when a door for massive change opens, and great revolutions for good or evil spring up in the vacuum created by these openings. In these divine moments, key men, women and even entire generations risk everything to become the hinge of history, the pivotal point that determines which way the door will swing.

I’ll be taking part in this and then going to The Call.

I’m so excited to be going to the Call because it is such a monumental event. I know what a significant thing it is, so much so that I know I really don’t know. Do you know what I mean? And I want to fast, but I’ve never done longer than one day. I know it will ultimately come down to if God lays it on my heart, if He officially has me to or not. I want to, so I’ll just be praying about it. But I really want to.

You know, it blows my mind what God is doing. In me, and in the ministries I am involved in. He has done more in the last 8 months than in all my life. I know it has to do with me, and yet it doesn’t. It seems there is so much more happening in the Spiritual and it is being reflected more and more in the natural. Lately I keep being reminded of Misty’s song: There’s something bigger going on. There’s Someone bigger than me. There’s something bigger going on. He’s holy, holy. It is Life and I am living!

Shawn, I met you at Onething Nashville, and I love your blog! As a Tennessean, the Call is so big in that we have been praying for Nashville for years that God’s presence would break out from Music City. I can’t wait to see what God will do! I hope lots of people come from IHOP, do you know if any of the internships will be going?

God started causing a deep restlessness in my spirit about 2 months ago. Call it being fed up with the way things are, longing for more of God, longing for less of me, call it what ever you want it was a stirring that has brought me time and time again to a place of saying, “God, I need you.” The first time I heard about the Call Nashville I got excited and knew that I wanted to bring a group from the college ministry I work with.

Then last week, I listened to Lou’s message on the Onething podcast and new that God spoke to me to take part in the fast. I am excited about what God is going to do.

I hope it works out for me to bring a group to the call, but I am almost certain that my wife and I will be there and we will be fasting in the weeks leading upto 7.7.07.

    Thanks for the post.

My wife is expecting our first boy around that time, so I don’t think we’ll make it anywhere except Riverside Hospital.

I received the announcement yesterday concerning the fast, and I will also be participating from the Eastern Gateway of Hampton Roads, VA. Very exciting times indeed.

I subscribed to MorningStar’s New Year’s conference online and heard about The Call 07-07-07 then (or at least it was brought more strongly to my attention). I head that Mike’s team at the IHOP 7 year celebration had 777 on their shirts. Was that related? I’d definitely like to get a better sense of what people at IHOP are thinking about participating in the 40 day fast. I keep up with Leonard Jones’ site (he’s the worship team leader at MorningStar) and he mentioned recently that he will be helping the musicians for The Call. He also mentioned in another note that he was humming or whistling the tune for Dragnet and the Lord said, I have cast my dragnet to the bottom of the youth and it will bring them up. (not exact words) He said on that day he was looking and it did not seem like rain, yet his other senses told him it was going to rain. The dragnet cannot be seen because it’s already been cast! (shoutin’ time :)

Bob Jones said at the New Year’s conference “if you can’t say something good, don’t say anything”. That has been kind of a leading thought for me this year :)

If I could offer–I’d like the IHOP style of worship, though of course none of the prompting to go has been conditional, for example, if they have harp and bowl, go :)

@ John Paul: The 777 were football jerseys and not related at all to The Call. I was on the football team, too.

Most people here at IHOP that I have had conversations with about the fast are nervous and excited. It takes a lot of emotional energy to begin a 40 day fast, but this is a divine opportunity to partner with something God is doing, and many don’t want to miss it.

I’m also excited to participate in the 40 days and Call. I know it’s going to be a challenge, but I also know that it is going to be lifechanging as I learn to die to my flesh in this way. BillBright.com has some great practical fasting tips, too. Thanks, Shawn, for posting about this.
