Intro to Life in God from Song of Solomon

March 12th, 2007 | Life in God | Syndicate Content

As I mentioned in this past weekend’s Survey, I am writing some posts on intimacy with God and life in God out of Song of Solomon. As I have been studying lately I’ve felt such a tenderness in my own heart towards the Lord. Needless to say, I am looking forward to this series quite a bit. Song of Solomon is a book of the Bible that many people have avoided because it may seem a little awkward or not make sense. I have been studying it for several years, with a renewed focus over the past few months and I am excited to highlight some of my favorite key verses.

Song of Solomon is a cyclical book. Which means that the story begins with the start of the journey and ends with the end. But we go through the journey in small cycles as we move through our long-term over-all journey as well. At any given time in our lives there are one or two passages that speak to the season we are in with God.

Here is a quick outline of the passages and topics I am writing on:

  • The Kiss of His Word (SOS 1:2) - Longing for more of God
  • Draw Me Away (1:4) - Godly ministry patterns
  • Dark but Lovely (1:5) - God enjoys us even in our weakness
  • Catch us the Foxes (2:15) - Pursuing holiness
  • The Beauty of Jesus (5:10-16) - 12 descriptions of Jesus
  • The Divine Seal (8:6) - God’s jealousy towards you

I just want to say again how excited I am for this series. I hope that many of you who have not understood the language of Song of Solomon will get a greater clarity and a fresh hunger to study it.

Intimacy with God must be our highest goal. Song of Solomon is one of the richest books for us to study, pray and encounter God with. Those of you wanting to receive the full benefit of the Song, must turn it into an on-going affectionate praerful dialogue with Jesus. We want the language of the Song of Solomon to get into our prayer life and thought life so it can transform our emotions.

Currently I am using two resources to help me study. 1) Mike Bickle’s Song of Solomon outline. There are 20 chapters in PDF format. I made them available for download here. 2) Watchman Nee’s commentary. You can order it here.

I took your advice and picked up Watchman Nee on Thursday. I also plan to really milk Mike’s series and now your blog series. I’m just gonna take it slow and hopefully not so easy as it begins to take root and change large portions of my heart at a time. It’s gonna be great!
