Review: It’s A Grind Coffee Shop

Americanos Across America

It's a Grind Coffee Shop

The Place:

It’s a Grind: The closest non-starbucks coffee shop to my temporary home in Irvine, CA. (Well, technically 7-11 was closer, but they don’t count.)

It’s a Grind is parked inside an outdoor strip mall. They seemed to have a faithful little community, because when I went in at 7:25 this morning there were several people there. Eating and drinking, journaling, typing and enjoying the atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. In fact, my americano was hand delivered by my barrista.

The Barrista:

Dorris. (Chuck’s Sister?)

The Drink:

12 oz. Double Americano with room for $2.30. I had to pay extra to get the 2nd shot. Someone say “That ain’t right!”

The Drinking of the Drink:

After prying off the lid, the crema looked just about perfect. I took a sip while it was still black and got some of the crema in. mmmm.

I probably should have kept it black. After I added the cream it was still good, but got a little old after a while.

The Conclusion:

Although the coffee shop itself seemed like a nice place to stay, It’s a Grind didn’t leave me satisfied. Once I got to church this morning someone was going to Starbucks and I ordered another americano: Double short.

You know I have always been a plane jane coffee drinker but tried an Americano just the other day in our Java City that is built into my work and it was pretty good. A little strong at first but I got used to it. Maybe I will be educated here in the are of coffee.

About your temporary home in Irvine…I was wondering something. Did the host provide a bed for you, or did you have to use a couch or an air mattress? And they didn’t even give you coffee in the morning? If I were you I’d find a new place to stay next time you’re in Irvine.

No, you are always welcome…as long as it is temporary. We miss you already.

good report…i think i’ve found the best americano in boulder.
They serve Italian roasted beans. And i was told by one of the employees that in italy they train their baristas for five years! isn’t that crazy. I think you should make a trip to italy so you can taste the best espresso you’ll ever have.

@ Chris: It’s funny you mention that. In fact I did have to sleep on an air mattress. I should have told Joanna… The nerve of those people.
