If you have a wordpress.com blog then the Snap Preview is turned on automatically. I for one think that little Snappy is obnoxious.
Please turn it off: Go to your Dashboard > Presentation > Extras > Un-check “Enable Snap Preview…” and click Update…
If you’ve installed Snap on your own website, first of all “Why?” and secondly, “Why?”

Amen to that! I turned mine off as soon as that first little unwanted snapshot invaded my computer screen… Bad idea, wordpress.

And thirdly, “Why?”
Is it an infatuation with the website behind the name? Does a website screenshot really tell you everything there is to know about a link or a person?
Personally, if I wanted to find out how a website looked, I would *gasp* go to the site. I don’t need an ajaxy-in-your-face pop-up trying to wet my appetite.

Yeah, I’m not sure why wordpress.com set it up to be turned on by default.

Oh yeah!! I had downloaded a program that does that for the entire web. After I got it and saw how fricking annoying it was, I immediately shut it down. I thought it had resurrected until I found it on my WordPress admin and promptly stoppinated it.

@Nathan: I just scroll over the link and then look in my status bar at the bottom of my browser to tell me the URL. That is usually enough to find out what they’re talking about.
But if I really want to follow the link I can instead of waiting for the image preview to load only to see a miniature thumbnail of the website that I can’t really distinguish anyway.

Oh cmon now… don’t any of you find it at least semi-cool? I enjoy getting a quick glimpse of a site without having to tab click it and bring it up in a browser. As a designer, I often base my decision about unknown sites on whether the thumb looks presentable, and un-busy.
I can see how one can get tired of it, and I’m thinking of downing mine for a while.
I had to insert code to get Snap up and running on my site. Since that time, they’ve come out with several plug-ins.

@Ralph: It would be cool if you could get a close up picture making a wacky face. Then people would click on the link out of curiosity.
@Jeff: It’s true that having a catchy looking homepage even as a thumbnail is nice, and perhaps people will outclick from your site because of Snap. But is it a service that they appreciate having on your site?

I love the snap thing…but only cause I’m a geek… It’s a pretty much useless tool that accomplishes nothing, but I use it all of the time! SNAP!!

Thanks, Zack. I was feeling pretty un-cool b/c I thought it was fun and no one else thought that! It’s fun to run your cursor over it fast and see how fast or slow it loads the thumbnail. Kind of like hide & seek only funnier. Or maybe like playing with your food…you have to find your fun in life somewhere!

Yes, you are right, I shouldn’t play with my food, um, I mean, play with snap.

Keep enjoying life! All these Snap nay-sayers are making me wonder if they’re PC users. Some things were just meant to be fun!

Hallelujah. I hate snap. It’s like an annoying little brother sticking his finger an inch from your face and saying “I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you, I’m not touching you!” Snap makes me want to snap.

I found snap quite vain before joined this little ihop bandwagon of “intellectualism,” or wordcasting as sliker puts it.
