This weekend I join full on with Rizzo’s team, and next week my morning prayer room team starts.
With the changes to my schedule I am making changes to my lifestyle too…
Intro: Did you know I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do? Yep. I took martial arts for 11 years. I used to work out 4-5 hours a day 5-6 days a week. It was a lean, mean, fighting machine. I kid you not. I used to compete on the C.K.A. circuit and I could beat up someone twice my size. My hands were registered weapons in the state of Colorado. Dead serious (no pun intended).
Since moving to IHOP the most exercise I get is the hour or two of pacing I do in the prayer room. My wife tells me that 2 hours a day of drumming counts as cardiovascular exercise but I’m not sold on that.
I’m going to start working out again. I even bought some new running shoes. I am hoping to start martial arts again. There’s a training studio that opened up about 10 minutes from my house that I”m going to check out. (If that doesn’t work then I’m considering getting a membership to “The View” and talking Josh into being my new workout buddy.)
In addition to all this I am also picking up a new diet: less sugar, less flour, less dairy. More fruits, more veggies, more grains and meats. My wife is excited. She loves salad.

Bro I’m in. If you decide against the Tae Kwon Do, let’s work the View over. Besides, there’s probably more big guys there for you to whoop on, and there’s all kinds of little kids for me to whoop on.

As a personal trainer and group exercise instructor I encourage you, and say way to go on this new resolution. Even though drumming does provide endurance strength to your arms, shoulders, and core, you are right, not enough intensity for a cardio benefit. And after awhile your muscles become accustomed to that type of movement and you need to cross train to make a difference. If your heart rate is within training, for at least thirty minutes, then you are strengthening your heart and lungs, but it doesn’t sound like that is happening.
Congrats on this new adventure. Lots of stretching the first week, start slowly.
Your americano, no cream will help too!

Dude! I’m twice your age, have the same problem (out of shape) and the same aspirations for this year (more excersize, less sugar, better eating)!!! It doesn’t get any easier the older you get, so get in shape and stay in shape. My hubby turned 60 this year and rode his bicycle over 6000 kilometers (3728.227 miles) so it can be done.

So if your hands are in your pockets could you get arrested for concealed weapons?
You’re gonna work out in a daytime women’s TV show?
That’s pretty cool though. The most exercise I get is when I walk up and down the steps.

I have this amazing ability to always loose fights but I don’t go down without a fight. The dictionary calls this perseverance…I call this trying to show everyone your tough when you are not…this reminds me of ninth grade, this guy Jake, hope he’s reading this.
Call me if you want to beat me up…Z and J productions will make a video out of it.
I also would say that less sugar would change many things in my life, I am inspired.

@Steve: nunchuks in your garage? Ha! I have two samurai swords on top of the entertainment center in my living room. Touch them and you’re in big trouble…

@ Steve - that’s it, nobody gives Motlong the “if” statement. Fight Club starts next week, location will be disclosed by invitation only.
