Getting Comments in email

November 22nd, 2006 | Announcements | Syndicate Content

I’ve had a few people mention that they’re getting comments in their email.

That’s because of this fancy feature:

You may not notice this check box when you submit your comment. It is basically a subscription to the comments on that post. If you are seemingly getting e-mails every time any one posts a comment then you are subscribed to many posts.

When submitting your comment you can chose to be notified of followup comments via e-mail…

Once you’ve submitted a comment and chosen to receive the e-mails you’ll see this for each post that you are subscribed to:

To change your subscriptions simply click the link “Manage your subscriptions.” This takes you to an admin page where you can view all the posts you are subscribed to and un-subscribe to any you don’t want.

If you don’t ever want to subscribe then simply un-check the box when you are submitting your comment.

The advantages to subscribing to comment notification is that many posts have conversations going on within the comments. This is a way to stay involved in the conversation. Especially with older posts that are not right at the top of the front page.

Another thing to remember to uncheck! But it’s a smart feature from your perspective - wonder how many people want it defaulted.

Hey I really like it! Especially when I am trying for 750! It is one more reason I think I will be moving from blogspot soon. I switched to their beta and now I can’t post you tube or google video!

If you decide to switch to WordPress (which I highly recommend) then you can read step by step instructions here.

Shawn, I like having the comment notification feature as an option, but I keep forgetting to uncheck it! I don’t know if you can change the default settings, but my vote would be to have it “unchecked” unless selected by the commenter.

I second Sarah’s vote. Have it unchecked unless you check it.

If it makes you feel better I get an e-mail every time anybody leaves a comment anywhere.

As stated above you can edit your subscriptions:

If you click on the “manage my subscriptions” link at the bottom of a post you are subscribed to you can de-select any posts you don’t want to get email updates for.
