I absolutely had to blog this

I read this on the plane in the Southwest magazine, “Spirit” this weekend, and just had to copy the article…

Mr. T - like leggings, Lacoste, and other ’80s accoutrements - is back.

You can watch I Pity the Fool on TVLand.com

If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can pay him enough money, maybe you too, can hire Mr. T. That’s what TV land has done. They’ve signed T to helm an original reality series in which he helps the hapless by providing them with life advice. So, that’s nice. To get ready for the new show, we offer four things you didn’t know, or just forgot, about everyone’s favorite A-Team star.

1 In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the Greatest American Ever, Mr. T finished fourth behind Martin Luther King Jr., who was third; Abraham Lincoln, who was second; and Homer Simpson, who was first.

2. Mr. T’s real name: Laurence Tureaud

3. Mr. T has shed his trademark pile of gold chains. He swore of the bling after seeing how Hurricane Katrina had left thousands with nothing except the clothes on their backs.

4. “I Pity the Fool” is not just some tagline he picked up playing Clubber Lang in Rocky III. It’s actually a deeply philosophical construct, sort of like Hegel’s belief in a world spirit that guides all events in history, except with less history and more pity. To wit, Mr. T’s own explanation. “I pity the fool because you don’t want to beat up a fool. If you pity him, you know, you won’t have to beat him up. So that’s why I say, fools you gotta give another chance, because they don’t know no better.”

Is anyone else slightly appauled and yet fascinated that Mr. T is giving life advice on National Television?

[Thanks Nathan for the link to the show]

I heard Mr. T was christian. Apparently he’s got 5 piercings on one of his ears and 2 on the other because of that story about the boy with 5 fish and 2 loaves.

Not sure though … he probably pities me for not knowing. Oh well. :)

I heard the earrings had more to do with the 7 trumpets of revelation but wouldn’t all fit on one ear.

    Dont’ quote me, foo’.

    Isn’t Mr. T a christian now?
I think he was in a end times movie a few years ago.

I’m listening to your seminar from OneThing, it’s really good. I wish I could’ve been there to see peoples reaction to your myspace comments.

I heard each piercing was a checkmark for reading through the Bible. One ear is for the New Testament and the other ear for the Old.

He can be seen many times with “christian” t-shirts on. He was in “Left Behind”. Unfortunately he lent his persona for interview awhile back for Howard Stern, which was highly questionable.

If you would like to see an interview with Mr. T. I have a link to a british show “Bring Back the A-Team” where T is wearing a Jesus t-shirt and giving a level-headed interview.

[…] (Note: This doesn’t mean you have to streamline your blog into one topic and never deviate. I still plan on talking about Apple, Mr. T, and other random occurrences of Diet Coke and Mentos.) […]
