Merchant Band made it into Tampa this morning, and I would like to take a minute to publicly thank Southwest Airlines for being the greatest airline in the world. Seriously, Southwest is the Apple of the sky.
We were running late this morning and we got to the airport about 40 minutes before our flight was scheduled to leave. But they helped us unload all our luggae off the truck, they checked us in super fast and didn’t charge us for our two monitor cases that both weigh over 50 pounds. We were in and on and ready to go with no problems. Thanks guys.
Speaking of airports, well actually, speaking of bathrooms in airports, what is with those ‘hands free sinks’? You know the ones you put your hands under and it’s supposed to just turn on? Thanks to the “ease” of modern bathroom technology I was unable to wash my hands. I went to four (yes 4) different sinks to attempt to wash my hands. Even sinks that someone had just used with no problem. Apparently my skin is invisible to the infared dedectors. Don’t you think there should be a back-up valve or something?
On the way here we stopped at Subway and Steven ate a slice of jalapeno after I promised him I would blog about it.
This camp is being hosted on a huge 110 acre retreat center. The hotel we’re staying in is the “Miracle Manner” and it’s right next to the “Living Water Trailer Park.” You don’t need a map to know we’re in the south.

I’m not sure how I feel about comments like that…I know there’s a lot of truth to it, but it doesn’t make it any easier to be associated with things like trailer parks and convenience stores where the name is spelled “phonetically.”

Don’t worry, we have “Kum and Go” in Colorado too.

Well, that helps…I guess I live in (hopefully) ungrounded fear of being stereotyped with folks who would so name their establishments or eat fried squirrel brains (like Marcus so sadly discovered in Moultrie). =)

You know, Shawn, someone’s a little defensive about being a southerner. No names, of course.

I don’t think “defensive” is the right word…I actually rather enjoy my southern heritage. It’s fun conversation a lot of the time. It’s easy to fascinate people with just a little bit of storytelling. I just usually try to avoid those topics that tend to cause eyebrows to rise and noses to scrunch. Know what I mean?

Hollie - you should start your own blog and call it “Nothin’ North About It”. You can have a hit counter that keeps track of how many eyebrow rises and nose scrunches you get per post.
